Steampunk Anthology Officially Out Today

All that effort in drawing stuff has led to Steampunk Thursday: the release of our second anthology from Tachyon Publications. This anthology was just a joy to edit for both Ann and me--and word is that it'll be going to a second printing very soon (pre-orders have been insane). What are people saying about it? Here are a few advance reviews:"Chock full of brass, steam, diabolical engines, villains, Victorian aesthetics, romance, and humour.... An essential primer!" - Jake Von Slatt, The Steampunk WorkshopThe VanderMeers (The New Weird) have assembled another outstanding theme anthology, this one featuring stories set in alternate Victorian eras. This is a superb introduction to one of the most popular and inventive subgenres in science fiction. - Starred Review, Publishers Weekly"I've just spent several highly entertaining hours with my advance review copy and I'm knocked out. What a great piece of work this is, from the fascinating triumvirate of essays that recount the history of steampunk in literature and describe its contemporary appeal to the top-notch works of fiction inside, from forgotten proto-steampunk gems by Michael Moorcock and James Blaylock to contemporary pieces from Neal Stephenson, Jay Lake, Ted Chiang and Paul Di Filippo (among many others). Summer's almost here -- time to do some leisure reading, and what better place to start than here?" - Cory Doctorow, Boing BoingYou can also hear me prattling on about Steampunk on Australian public radio. (You may certainly find amusement in the brain-lock that resulted in me blurting out "mechanical corsets!")Our contributors include: Michael Chabon / Neal Stephenson / James P. Blaylock / Joe R. Lansdale / Mary Gentle / Ted Chiang / Michael Moorcock / Jay Lake / Molly Brown / Stepan Chapman / Ian R. MacLeod / Rachel Pollack / Paul Di Filippo / Rick Klaw / Jess Nevins / Bill BakerAnd here's Tachyon's cover copy: "Steampunk is Victorian elegance and modern technology: steam-driven robots, souped-up stagecoaches, and space-faring dirigibles fueled by gaslight romance, mad scientists, and oh-so-trim waistcoats. It’s The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, 10,000 Leagues Under the Sea, The Wizard of Oz, and The Golden Compass. Replete with whimsical mechanical wonders and bold adventurers, this riveting anthology lovingly collects classic steampunk stories, pop-culture fueled discussions of steampunk, and essential recommended reading lists for the discerning steampunk fan. From the editors of The Thackery T. Lambshead Pocket Guide to Eccentric and Discredited Diseases and The New Weird, this is steampunk. Hang on tight."I'm probably 'tarded to re-mention the special offer available until May 15th, but if you want a personalized copy check out the Steampunk Workshop post.
