(Close-to-final cover for the pirate anthology, which is out in early December. e-ARCs are available for reviewers, and I've just seen a preview of a rave review coming out in Locus.)Book NewsAnn V. and John Davey just turned in The Very Best of Michael Moorcock, a definitive collection of stories of approximately 155,000 words, to Tachyon Publications (May 2009). Everything from the antichrist to Christ, Elric to "London Bone".The Church just sent their awesome Shriek: Excerpts from a Soundtrack CD to press, with cover by Ben Templesmith. The CD will be available for sale directly from The Church, OR with the limited edition of Shriek coming out from Wyrm Publishing (late Sept/early Oct.). Since the limited is only $40, it's probably the best deal.I will begin doing a pop culture column for Realms of Fantasy (think art books, toys, gaming, etc.--anything cool that catches my magpie eye) along with my graphic novels column. I will be giving up the books column I do as a result, which backed up Paul Witcover's lead reviewing with short capsule reviews. More on my replacement soon.In Shared Worlds teen writing camp news, Holly Black will be one of our visiting writers. More on Shared Worlds soon.Predator: South China Sea just went to press this past week, after a few minor last-minute corrections. More on that book in another post.My (tentatively titled) Booklife: Strategies and Survival Tips for the 21st Century Writer, which includes an expanded version of my blog post "How to Write a Novel in Two Months", will be out from Tachyon in September 2009. Finch is scheduled for October 2009.In other Tachyon news, The Kosher Guide to Imaginary Animals will be published in November 2009, expanded from the original blog entry and illustrated. This is tentatively scheduled to be the first in an eventual series of "Evil Monkey Presents" books. In 2010, our Tachyon titles are my story collection, Finding Sonoria & Other Stories and the reprint antho The Next Wave.From Prime in March, expect Mapping the Beast: The Best of Leviathan and The Leonardo Variations, a Clarion charity anthology.On the horizon is a novel collaboration with a good friend, finishing up "Borne" (either a short novel or a novella), a nonfiction book collaboration with a steampunker you might know, and several other interesting projects.As for Weird Tales, Ann recently turned in "the international issue" and she will also be appearing at the special Oct. 15th Weird Tales KGB bar reading in NYC (Jeff Ford, Karen Hueler, etc.) to do introductions and be her cool, wonderful self.Recent Reviews, Interviews, Etc.An interview with Ann and me about Steampunk just ran on PopMatters.Also, my review of Anathem by Stephenson appeared on the Barnes & Noble site.The Bib Stalker has an interesting review of the first Best American Fantasy.Finally, Underland Press, which is publishing Finch, officially announced what it's all about.
